Platform Overview
The AEX trading platform consists of three main interfaces:
- AEM (Aotearoa Energy Market) — the web-based trading terminal
- AEX Excel Add-in — a market maker workstation built into Microsoft Excel
- Admin Panel — management tools for credit, users, entities, and market operations
The Trading Terminal (AEM)
AEM is a real-time web application where traders view market data, place orders, and manage positions.
Key areas of the interface
The trading terminal is organised into several workspace panes that you can arrange to suit your workflow:
- Price Grid — live bid/ask prices across all products and contracts
- Order Book — depth of market for the selected contract
- Order Ticket — enter and submit new orders
- Order List — your active and historical orders
- Fill List — executed trades
- Event Log — real-time market events and system messages
Navigation
The top navigation bar provides access to:
- Trading view — the main workspace with price grids and order management
- Management panel — credit, user, and entity administration (admin users)
- Settings — theme, timezone, and display preferences
Market Sessions
The AEX market operates on a daily session schedule in New Zealand time (NZST/NZDT):

| Pre-Open | Orders can be entered but no matching occurs |
| Auction | Opening auction — orders are collected and matched at a single clearing price |
| Open | Continuous trading — orders match in real time |
| Closed | No new orders accepted; market is inactive |
